Independent Bank surpasses Relay For Life fundraising goal
June 20, 2008
Jim Badgero, assistant vice president and banking office manager of Independent Bank’s Newaygo and Croton offices is now sporting a very short hairstyle thanks to a bet made with his staff. Associates from the two offices, along with associates from Independent Bank’s White Cloud location pledged to raise $2,500 for Relay For Life of Newaygo County. If they reached their goal, Jim would shave his head. During the Relay weekend the team surpassed their target for dollars raised and Jim made plans to fulfill his promise.
On the Friday following the Relay, Jim’s son Brandon shaved his dad’s head in front of an audience in the Newaygo banking office lobby. In honor of the Relay, Brandon also chose to have his head shaved.
Associates from all three offices raised money and walked in the Relay as members of the Independent Bank team, the Walking Liberties. The team surpassed their original goal by $700, raising a total of $3,200 for the American Cancer Society. To raise the funds, associates sold cotton candy, popcorn and luminary bags during the Relay. They also ran the dunk tank, selling three balls for a $1 donation.
